Why did you write Facing the Mirror with Cancer?  Back to top

Because it works! By teaching cancer patients how to apply makeup, I’ve seen firsthand what an incredible transformation occurs in their appearance and how much better they feel about themselves. I’ve written this book because I want to reach cancer patients everywhere so they can learn the tricks of my trade.
Necessity: There is no other book out there that speaks directly to the needs of cancer patients.
Privacy: Being able to apply makeup in a comfortable place, in private, gives you a greater sense of dignity.
Confidence: When you’ve taken control over temporary alterations to your appearance you can feel more positive on the inside and be more confident in public.

This book covers the appearance needs of men, teens, and children, as well as women.
All the photographs are of cancer patients and survivors who allowed us to take their picture during cancer treatments and recovery. The patients themselves demonstrate how to use the techniques, and how these techniques help to restore a natural appearance.
The order of the steps for applying makeup is unconventional and is designed especially for cancer patients. With each step, there is an immediate uplifting result.
There are quotes throughout the book to express the words and feelings of cancer patients themselves.
Top medical professionals in dermatology and in the psycho-social effects of cancer contribute their expertise.
Cosmetic specialists give detailed instructions on hair, wig, and nail care.
